Mausam

8/10

I went to the movie just for the sake of it being a ‘Pankaj Kapur’ directorial venture. I love Pankaj Kapur. Sometimes it seems that there are a whole lot of people I love. I might not be able to count them in finite time. Anyways, that’s not the point here. Pankaj Kapur is one of my favorite artists because of Maqbool, Ek Doctor Ki Maut ( and believe me, I haven’t seen the movie yet! ), Seher, Maqbool, Dharm and so on. Who doesn’t love him? Everybody does. Even if someone has been unfortunate enough to not watch him on the big screen, everybody has seen Mussaddilal in ‘Office Office’.

His directorial debut was a beautiful movie. There were a number of twists and turns in the story. The script-writing part of it could have been much better. Not to take away anything from the present writer, but still, it could have been way better. The direction was beautiful. The actors were chosen cautiously and it paid off. The music was quite disappointing, as it is every time with Pritam. The songs are catchy, but the music is missing. Or the other problem could be that I might not be aware of what music really is!

There’s one thing that I disliked the most, and that is the over-dramatic ending sequence. Filthy dialogue, poor acting and very average cinematography in the final sequences of the movie. Anyways, nice try. A very good one for a debut. Things will get cleaner next time.

It might well be off screens by now. Watch it on your laptop or something. It’s worth a watch. Here’s a trailer,
