This film freaks me out. It really does. The Exorcism Of Emily Rose might now freak me out, The Silence Of Lambs might now freak me out. But this films does. The idea does. A Magdalenian man has survived 14,000 years and he tells his close mates about it while he was shifting to another place because the people around start noticing that he doesn’t age. And as he tells the story he reveals truths about the history, breaks myths, reveals more truths and explains what it was actually. During the story he claims that he met the Buddha, and afterwards he said that he was Christ and he had escaped death a few times.
It would have been okay, if this was a comedy or even a drama where he was supposed to be joking. But dammit, he wasn’t. And there’s a moment in the movie where the lead actor says to the Christian Liberal Edith, ‘Could you be sure, ever ?’. He implied that he would stop talking about him being Christ but said that she couldn’t be sure ever.
The film is shot in a room and a scene or two outside. It still keeps you on the edge of your seat. This film is based on a script written by Jerome Bixby in the span of 38 years from 1960 till 1998 when he completed the script on his deathbed.
Watch it if you are intrigued by the idea.
